Pesticide and Health Research Center The Pesticide and Health Research Center is dedicated to understanding the potential health effects of pesticides and promoting safe and sustainable agricultural practices. Our mission is to provide objective, science-based information on pesticide-related health issues, toxicology, and environmental chemistry. We conduct research on the health risks associated with pesticide exposure, focusing on the effects of pesticides on human health, soil organisms, and the environment. Our goal is to inform policy and practice to reduce the harmful impacts of pesticides and promote healthier alternatives..
Key Areas of Research
- Human Health Effects of Pesticides: We study the toxicity and health effects of pesticides on humans, including their impact on the nervous system, skin, eyes, and endocrine system. We also investigate the potential link between pesticide exposure and chronic diseases such as cancer, Parkinson’s disease, and autoimmune disorders.
- Soil Health and Pesticides: Our research focuses on the impact of pesticides on soil organisms, such as earthworms, ants, beetles, and ground-nesting bees. We investigate the negative effects of pesticides on soil health, including mortality, abundance, biomass, behavior, reproduction, and structural changes.
- Cumulative Risk Assessment: We evaluate the risks associated with individual pesticide active ingredients and groups of pesticides that have a common toxic effect. This involves assessing the potential for synergistic effects when multiple pesticides are used together.
- Alternative Pesticide Strategies: We research and promote alternative pesticide strategies, such as ecological farming methods, that support biodiversity and reduce the need for toxic chemicals.
